Bike Week Thursday is Beautiful!

I guessed I’ve been luck and missed all the rain this week. I wore my raincoat Tuesday but didn’t really need it. And last night, I didn’t need a coat at all!

This morning was chilly. I was stylin’ in my knit dress, Ibex woolies tights, a Mountain Hardward t-shirt and a yellow LL Bean windbreaker I bought 10 years ago when I was a half-marathoner. Too bad I won’t be taking photos of myself to post. Way too stylish for my audience…

I rode through the drive-through lane at the bank on my way to work. Only one other car so no sitting in exhaust fumes, which was nice.

One of the things I love about bike commuting is stopping at a moment’s notice to check something out.

Today on my way to work I stopped at a fun garage sale on Tomahawk. I bought 2 LIFE magazines. One from December 11, 1970 touting the benefits of organic food and gardening…gosh we’ve come a long way…not. I have an organic garden in my backyard and I guess things may be better but I doubt it. The other issue is from October 27, 1972. It caught my eye because Dr. Land is on the cover taking pics with the new and revolutionary Polaroid Land Camera. The SX-70 with the leather looking cover was a thing of beauty.

I also picked up a Family Handyman Magazine. Home Improvement Series #3. Recreation Room Ideas. Copyright 1965. IT ROCKS!
I LOVE everything in it. Can you say plywood, paneling, and linoleum? They also talk about asphalt and vinyl asbestos flooring. Mmmm. Good, healthy stuff! But in modern 1965 you can also use rubber and vinyl flooring as well due to the improvements in techniques and adhesives.

The pictures are swell. I’ll scan some and post them soon. You’ll ooh and ahh over the non-lockable gun rack filled with guns near little Tommy and mom in the basement. You’ll also enjoy the carpenter in overalls and a fedora. They knew how to dress in the 60′s.

OK, this wasn’t about bicycles so much…but I found these gems while RIDING a bicycle. Close enough.
