I thought it was kinda cold….

…for my bike commute.

But nice and sunny. I did have to put one hand at a time in my pocket to keep them warm but for the last couple of miles, they seemed to warm up.

I put black gaffer’s tape over my shoes since the tops are mesh. My feet were definitely cold after 6 miles. I usually tape them up inside and out for winter. I should find some nice fur-lined boots and put cleats in the bottom…

The last part going down the hill from Lamar towards Metcalf on 91st, the flags in front of an apartment complex were blowing towards me and there was no coasting to be had. Luckily, not much of my ride is straight west.

I feel for anyone having to work outside today.

I definitely want to buy new gloves for this winter’s bike commute. Anyone have suggestions?

This Dog Loves to Ride

Caesar patiently awaits a bicycle ride. He LOVES riding in anything on a bike. A basket, trailer, pannier, backpack…you name it.

My Dog Loves Riding Bikes

This has nothing to do with my inner tube bag business or bike commuting but he often rides with us so I thought it was time to show another cute picture of him.

Bike Week Thursday is Beautiful!

I guessed I’ve been luck and missed all the rain this week. I wore my raincoat Tuesday but didn’t really need it. And last night, I didn’t need a coat at all!

This morning was chilly. I was stylin’ in my knit dress, Ibex woolies tights, a Mountain Hardward t-shirt and a yellow LL Bean windbreaker I bought 10 years ago when I was a half-marathoner. Too bad I won’t be taking photos of myself to post. Way too stylish for my audience…

I rode through the drive-through lane at the bank on my way to work. Only one other car so no sitting in exhaust fumes, which was nice.

One of the things I love about bike commuting is stopping at a moment’s notice to check something out.

Today on my way to work I stopped at a fun garage sale on Tomahawk. I bought 2 LIFE magazines. One from December 11, 1970 touting the benefits of organic food and gardening…gosh we’ve come a long way…not. I have an organic garden in my backyard and I guess things may be better but I doubt it. The other issue is from October 27, 1972. It caught my eye because Dr. Land is on the cover taking pics with the new and revolutionary Polaroid Land Camera. The SX-70 with the leather looking cover was a thing of beauty.

I also picked up a Family Handyman Magazine. Home Improvement Series #3. Recreation Room Ideas. Copyright 1965. IT ROCKS!
I LOVE everything in it. Can you say plywood, paneling, and linoleum? They also talk about asphalt and vinyl asbestos flooring. Mmmm. Good, healthy stuff! But in modern 1965 you can also use rubber and vinyl flooring as well due to the improvements in techniques and adhesives.

The pictures are swell. I’ll scan some and post them soon. You’ll ooh and ahh over the non-lockable gun rack filled with guns near little Tommy and mom in the basement. You’ll also enjoy the carpenter in overalls and a fedora. They knew how to dress in the 60’s.

OK, this wasn’t about bicycles so much…but I found these gems while RIDING a bicycle. Close enough.

Bike Commuting & Butch, The Frisbee Catching Dog

Had a nice commute this morning. I see this dog on many occasions as I pedal by. I stopped this morning and asked his owner if I could snap some pics to put on my blog, so here is the talented Butch, from Overland Park!

Isn’t he swell?

Bike Commuting As Therapy

There are so many benefits to riding a bike to work.

Sunset Over Beautiful OP Car Lot

I took this photo tonite. Now to get on my bicycle and skeedaddle on home….

I sewed part of 23 coin purses tonite. Yippee. I think I’m over 100 now on my way to 500.

Something new to hang on to.

Got a fly new set of handlebars for the Specialized.

Bike handlebar set-up.

Dashboard view.

I’m still testing them. It’s so different from my straight bars with bar-ends. I still think I want drop bars but this made for a fun ride to work this am.

Not wonderful with a headwind, but I’ll keep em for awhile. Thanks to the BF for setting this up for me.

700 Specialized miles deserves Muddy’s hot chocolate

I finally did it. I rode over 700 miles on Sunday. I rode my bike to work 3 days last week, Saturday and Sunday and back to work yesterday.

I got a ride home last night though. It was late and it was cold. Today was nicer but I was running late. Not a good excuse I know.

I really like my Specialized Vita. It’s just my size (I’m 5 foot 2 and a half, sometimes 3 when I wake up in the morning).

Here’s a new pic of it.

Mr. Loose in his park with our bicycles.┬áNotice how crafty I was in not shooting my shadow…that’s me in the bush.

We also went to Muddy’s. Mark bought me a hot chocolate. It was WONDERFUL.

It’s February, right?

I can’t believe how warm it is! I rode my bike to work – my day job – and I’m getting ready to ride home. My boyfriend came to ride home with me. Have a great evening!
